More than 50 Million PlayStation3 Units Sold Worldwide & Increasing!

Sony has kept its PlayStation 3 sales figures close to the vest, but on Friday the company officially announced shipment figures for its popular PlayStation 3 gaming console. Sony said that, as of March 29th, 2011, it has shipped 50 million PlayStation 3 consoles globally. Sony’s PlayStation Network, which allows users to download games, watch movies, and more, now has more than 75 million registered users in 59 countries around the globe. Sony also noted that it has shipped 8 million of its PlayStation Move motion controllers since the September 2010 launch. Call of Duty subscription service could attract 4 to 5 million gamers

Sony PlayStation 3 hit by major software bugs.

Sony on Monday said it had fixed a major software bug which prompted the company to warn millions of PlayStation 3 owners not to use their consoles earlier in the day. The Japanese electronics group said owners of the latest “slim” versions of the PS3 did not appear to be affected by the problem, which crashed and froze older consoles. Sony, which has sold more than 25m units of the older consoles, said it believed some 20m consoles might have been affected by a bug in the system clock, which was causing a number of possible errors. Sony’s PlayStation 3 got a boost from last week’s launch of “Final Fantasy XIII” as Japanese consumers snapped up special-edition consoles to give the PS3 its best week since a relaunch several months ago, according to data released on Friday.
