Final Fantasy V now available on PSN for $9.99 right now

Back the day when we were thankful to play whatever Japanese RPGs we were given, we looked wistfully at all the huge titles that never came to the US, including Final Fantasy V. English-speaking players couldn’t officially familiarize themselves with the game until it was released on the PlayStation, but by then it looked fairly dated compared to games like Final Fantasy VIII and Parasite Eve. Few bothered to play it, which is a real shame, and it’s a mistake you can now rectify should you download the game off PSN starting today. Sony’s CEO apologizes for security breach, will offer free month of PSN service

Sony’s president, chairman, and CEO, Howard Stringer, has issued letter of apology to PlayStation Network, Qriocity, and other Sony users who have been affected by the firm’s massive security breach. “Let me assure you that the resources of this company have been focused on investigating the entire nature and impact of the cyber-attack we’ve all experienced and on fixing it,” Stringer said. “We are absolutely dedicated to restoring full and safe service as soon as possible and rewarding you for your patience. We will settle for nothing less.” A total of 101 million accounts across Sony’s network were compromised and 12.3 million credit card numbers were stolen

Playstation boss slaps Nintendo in the face

Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Jack Tretton says it’s over for the Wii, and the DS is for kids only. Tretton feels confident that the PS3 will continue to live on for at least another six years, while its biggest competitor from Nintendo is already irrelevant. In a recent CNN interview he said, “If you’re really going to sustain technology for a decade, you have to be cutting edge when you launch a platform. Here we are 4 years into the Playstation 3, and it’s just hitting its stride. Hulu clears up Playstation Plus/Hulu Plus rumors

Following some wayward code on the Hulu Plus page that was discovered, Hulu has confirmed that Playstation Plus will be required for its premium service at first, but then it will transition to a feature for all PS3 users. Hulu plans to roll out its new premium streaming content to PS3 systems in the coming months, making it the first game console to have a Hulu Plus app. The only thing displayed on the Hulu Plus Web site right now is a picture of a PS3 with the words “Coming Soon,” but an inventive blogger looked at the page’s source code and found the phrase “The instructions below will help you install Hulu Plus on your PS3. PlayStation Network to experience worldwide downtime during mystery update

Sony’s PlayStation Network (PSN) is to go offline for just over 12 hours, starting at 4pm BST (8am PDT) on Wednesday June 9, though there is one way that PlayStation 3 owners can ensure their daily online gaming needs are met: log on before the network goes down. Its European website specifies the downtime as running from 4pm to 4:30am on Thursday June 10, North America’s equivalent as 8am to 8:30pm PDT (11am-11:30pm EDT), while the Japanese website logs the period as being slightly longer, midnight to 1:30pm on the Thursday.
