HP Annnounced its first Business Ultrabook, priced at $899.99.

HP announced the Folio 13, its first business Ultrabook with a thin and light design. According to HP, the new laptop offers up to 9 hours of battery life, the highest performance available among Ultrabook devices currently on the market. The 13.3-inch Ultrabook measures just 18mm thin and weighs only 3.3 pounds. The Folio 13 is powered by Intel’s Core i3 1.4GHz or Core i5 1.6GHz processor with 4GB of RAM and 128GB SSD for storage. The ultra slim notebook comes with a HP TrueVision HD webcam, a backlit keyboard, a 3-button touchpad, Ethernet LAN port, USB 3.0 connector, and HDMI output. HP Plans to kills off webOS operations for webOS devices

HP reported that it plans on discontinuing operations for webOS devices, namely its TouchPad and phones based on webOS. This might not come as surprise, especially considering that TouchPad hasn’t had the greatest of times when it comes to sales. To be honest, the OS had potential, but that’s basically all it ever had. Sales weren’t quite great and the same goes for apps and updates. This means that smartphones are now one OS competitor lighter, leaving Android, WP7, iOS and Blackberry. Naturally, HP is trying to make things seem as not so bad and claims it is exploring other options. These options will include HP’s own and third party devices, licensing, other manufacturers

Antennagate aside there is an interesting problem that the market is having trouble dealing with. That problem is that Apple’s model, after nearly two decades of thinking it was obsolete, is working pretty damn well. That model is vertical integration and, up until about 5 years ago, the economies of scale that were connected to horizontal specialization that support companies like Microsoft and Intel appeared vastly superior.
