Mozilla Announces Firefox 10 New Dev Tools and Full-Screen API
Thursday, February 2, 2012 12:09 No CommentsMozilla has officially released Firefox 10. The new version of the open source web browser includes a handful of improvements and new features. The browser’s built-in tools for web developers got a particularly significant boost in this release. The new version also offers better support for a number of web standards. The red panda is in double figures: the browser developed by the Mozilla Foundation is in fact now in version number 10 , as the software company also announced on the official website of the project. This is an absolutely unpredictable twelve months ago, when the stable release of the application was stopped at the 3.x branch of some problems in the development phase
Mozilla Firefox 8 grabs 35% of traffic in just one week, after latest release
Thursday, November 17, 2011 15:05 No CommentsMozilla’s latest version of it’s popular Firefox web browser saw rapid adoption following its release last week. Firefox 8, the fifth major release of the Mozilla browser so far this year, became available for download on November 9th. Within one day, the new iteration had already grown to account for 7% of all Firefox traffic across Chitika’s ad network, the company reported on Tuesday. By the end of the browser’s first week of availability, Firefox 8 claimed 35% of all Firefox traffic. “This is yet another testament to Mozilla’s recently adopted rapid release process, particularly made evident by the fact that first seven versions of the browser took seven years to release,

New Firefox Add-on With New HTTPS Everywhere for secure browsing.
Tuesday, November 30, 2010 10:25 No CommentsEarlier this year, the Firefox add-on Firesheep created quite a controversy by making it easy to capture unencrypted web traffic. Firesheep sniffs unencrypted cookies sent across open wi-fi networks. That means anyone with Firesheep installed can watch your browsing sessions while you lounge at Starbucks and grab your log-in credentials for Facebook, Twitter or other popular sites. Armed with those credentials, anyone using Firesheep can essentially masquerade as you all over the web, logging in to other social sites, blogs and news sites using your Facebook or Twitter username and password. None of Firesheep’s mechanisms are new. But Firesheep made sniffing web traffic point-and
12-Year-Old Kid Gets $3K Paycheck For Revealing Security Flaw in Firefox
Monday, October 25, 2010 0:17 No CommentsMozilla pays a bounty to security researchers who disclose vulnerabilities they find in an appropriate manner. The latest security researcher to get paid is none other than Alex Miller, a 12-year-old boy. Miller found and reported a critical buffer overflow and memory corruption flaw in Mozilla’s Firefox browser and earned $3,000 for his discovery, according to Mercury News. Miller says he was motivated to search for Firefox security holes after Mozilla increased its bug bounty from $500 to $3,000. The seventh grader, who described himself as a Firefox loyalist, has reported a Firefox vulnerability in the past, but that one did not qualify for the cash payout. Annoyed at not g
Firefox for Android Is Growing Up very Fast
Monday, September 27, 2010 4:21 No CommentsThe newest nightly builds of Firefox Mobile for Android phones are fast, stable, and — unlike the previously released alpha we told you about last month — actually usable. Development on Firefox for Android is progressing rapidly, and there are a lot of small tweaks and changes to be found in the new nightly builds. But the big news is that everything actually works now. The browser’s performance is much improved, especially in responsiveness, scrolling and zooming. You can download it here. But be sure to read the release notes, which cover the system requirements (Android 2.0 and up) and the known issues. This little browser called Fennec (as the mobile version of Firefox i
Mozilla releases Firefox 4.0 Beta 5, available in 39 languages
Thursday, September 9, 2010 12:41 No CommentsOver the past few months, developers at Mozilla Corporation have engaged in the final stages of the software development cycle for the next major release of the organization’s highly-acclaimed browser, Mozilla Firefox. The company recently released Firefox 4.0 Beta 5, which includes a more streamlined interface (think Google Chrome), GPGPU acceleration toggle options, and a new Audio Data API that exposes raw audio data in the browser by making use of HTML5 standards. The latest beta release also includes the highly-anticipated Firefox Sync feature by default for synchronization of bookmarks, history, passwords and open tabs between multiple devices (including iPod, iPhone and
Firefox Home App Is Now at iTune App Store
Friday, July 16, 2010 1:58 No CommentsWe’ve just learned that Firefox Home has been accepted to Apple’s App Store. This is Mozilla’s first submission to the App Store; the app was submitted 15 days ago. Fennec is Mozilla’s official mobile browser; it’s still in its early stages of testing and development. The Firefox Home app isn’t a browser itself, but it will help Apple mobile users get access to their Firefox bookmarks, browsing history and open tabs — all from within Mobile Safari. It features an “Awesome Bar” for finding your favorite websites (as determined by how frequently you visit them while browsing from your desktop or laptop computer). Firefox Home is able to accomplish all this through
Firefox 4 beta Now available, new look, better performance
Thursday, July 8, 2010 10:27 No CommentsMozilla’s released the first beta of Firefox 4, which sports a new interface and performance improvements. While it’s available for Windows, Mac and Linux, only Windows users are automatically offered the new interface – others can switch it on from the View menu. The new interface looks quite a bit like Chrome. Tabs are moved to the top and the menu bar is replaced with a single button to allow access to the most used options with a single click. The company promises improved performance, particularly by increasing responsiveness at start-up and during page loads. “This is just the beginning for performance improvements in Firefox 4,” says Mike Beltzn
Firefox New Version 3.6.4 is now protected against unstable plugins
Thursday, June 24, 2010 4:31 No CommentsMozilla has equipped the latest iteration of its popular Firefox browser with a “crash protection” shield to guard against unstable third-party plugins. “Release 3.6.4 provides…protection for Windows and Linux users by isolating third-party plugins when they crash,” explained Mozilla developer Mike Beltzner. “Results from our beta testing show Firefox 3.6.4 will significantly reduce the number of [browser] crashes experienced by users who are watching online videos or playing games. When a plugin crashes or freezes while using Firefox, users can enjoy uninterrupted browsing by simply refreshing the page.” Beltzner emphasized that third-part
