Latest Review of Call of Duty Black Ops – Escalation

Monday, May 9, 2011 1:57 No Comments

I like Treyarch. I really do. Considering they were given the arduous task of doing the ‘other’ Call of Duty games whilst Infinity Ward worked on the Modern Warfare series, they have constantly performed. Yet still they were the outcasts. In my honest opinion, out of the last three CoD games, Treyarch have made the top two. Another thing that makes their games stand out is the DLC. Unlike the Map Packs for MW2, Escalation brings five brand new maps (no recycling here!), four standard maps and one zombie map (another thing that Treyarch brought to the franchise). With people starting to turn against the Call of Duty series, is this one map pack too far? “No,” is the short an

Call of Duty: Black Ops Escalation for Xbox 360 coming on May 3rd

Tuesday, April 12, 2011 2:32 No Comments

On Monday, gaming site Major Nelson wrote that Activision has revealed it will launch the next expansion pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops for Xbox 360 on May 3rd. Dubbed “Escalation,” the new downloadable content — for Xbox LIVE subscribers — will sport five new maps, including four that can be played in multiplayer mode. New maps include “Hotel,” where you’ll battle on the roof of a Cuban hotel and casino, a Russian “Zoo,” a WMD “Stockpile”, and “Convoy.” And what’s an update without some more zombies? Escalation will reportedly offer a new “Zombie experience,” with new playable characters. It’s unclear how much Escalation will cost, but we’ve a

Latest Review of Call of Duty: Black Ops

Monday, November 15, 2010 0:21 No Comments

Arriving with an entirely appropriate bombastic marketing campaign last week, Black Ops, the latest instalment of the Call of Duty series, has more of an air of the blockbuster film sequel or much-awaited follow-up album about it. The hype and colossal development spend were certainly similar, but is it worthy of all this shock and awe? Shifting the action to the 1960s and the cold war sends special ops veteran Alex Mason into furious combat with communist hordes in Russia, Cuba and Vietnam – the game opening in an aggressive interrogation, leading to playable flashbacks from the titular covert missions. Featuring historical events such as the Bay of Pigs incident and Kennedy&#

Call Of Duty Black Ops Releasing Date Announced

Thursday, August 19, 2010 2:08 5 Comments

Playable segments of the game we’ve seen so far have taken us from cold to sweltering (abseiling down a Soviet mountain range one moment, storming through the Vietnamese jungle the next) and from high to low (commanding ground troops from the air in a section which play almost like a strategy game one moment, crawling through an underground catacomb filled with rats and assassins with only a torch for company the next). There certainly isn’t much time to stop and moralise or wonder what’s for dinner. The tunnel sequence, for some reason, made us think of how emotionally dark Treyarch’s previous Call of Duty, 2008′s World at War was. That game’s

Call of Duty: Black Ops is Activision’s Largest Launch Investment

Friday, August 6, 2010 10:14 No Comments

Infinity Ward has largely moved on, but Activision still has high expectations for the Call of Duty brand. In today’s investment call, CEO Bobby Kotick said that the title represents “the biggest investment that we’ve ever made in the launch of a title.” Kotick cited Call of Duty’s “incredibly broad appeal” as the main reason to throw the full weight of their resources behind the title. The Treyarch-developed shooter will also be competing directly against EA’s Medal of Honor revival, which is also due this fall. “There’s a lot of competition,” Kotick acknowledged, “and this is something that we think has the pote
