iPhone 5 reportedly started in mass production for German carrier taking preorders

Several sites are reporting that Foxconn and Pegatron have already started mass production of Apple’s upcoming iPhone 5.  Japanese tech site Macotakara reports that iOS 5 is still not ready, so the new iPhones are being stocked without the OS for now. The news comes as no surprise, since the iPhone 5 is supposed to launch in weeks, exactly when is anyone’s guess. However, Deutsche Telekom is already accepting preorders for the unannounced phone. The company believes the move will let it plan the launch a bit better and eliminate supply bottlenecks. Since Germany is one of few western countries to still have a solvent economy, it is probably a good idea to anticipate high demand. In rel

Sprint sues to block AT&T/T-Mobile merger on Tuesday

Sprint announced on Tuesday that it has filed a lawsuit with a federal court in the U.S. District of Columbia in an effort to block AT&T’s planned $39 billion acquisition of T-Mobile USA from Deutsche Telekom. The suit is related to the Department of Justice’s lawsuit, which was filed on August 31st. “Sprint opposes AT&T’s proposed takeover of T-Mobile,” Sprint’s vice president of litigation Suzan Haller said. “With today’s legal action, we are continuing that advocacy on behalf of consumers and competition, and expect to contribute our expertise and resources in proving that the proposed transaction is illegal.” Sprint argued that the merger will “harm retail con

Samsung unveils GALAXY Note smartphone & the Samsung GALAXY Tab 7.7 tablet

Samsung on Thursday unveiled two new GALAXY-branded devices at the IFA trade show in Germany, the Samsung GALAXY Note smartphone and the Samsung GALAXY Tab 7.7 tablet. The former blurs the line between smartphone and tablet — and usable and comical — featuring a massive 5.3-inch 1280 x 800-pixel Super AMOLED display that will likely make this device unpocketable for most consumers. The phone also curiously employs a stylus for note taking and drawing, though finger input is supported as well. Other specs include a 1.4GHz dual-core chipset, an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, a gigantic 2,500 mAh battery and Android 2.3 Gingerbread with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI

Samsung reveals bada 2.0-powered Wave 3, Wave M and Wave Y

Just days ahead of the IFA trade show in Berlin, Samsung officially unveiled three new bada 2.0-powered handsets: the Wave 3, Wave M and Wave Y. We first heard wind of the Wave 3 last week when an Android user spotted it inside of Samsung’s Mobile Unpacked APK and now we have the full details. The Wave 3 is the high-end smartphone of the bunch and comes equipped with a 4-inch Super AMOLED screen, a 5-megapixel camera, a 1.4GHz processor and HSPA connectivity all in a 9mm thin brush-aluminum shell. The Wave M is the first device to hit the market with Samsung’s new ChatON messaging software pre-installed. It offers a 3.65-inch display, a 5-megapixel camera, optional NFC connectivity, Wi-
