Palm has finally released a beta version of its webOS 2.0 SDK. The latest iteration of the operating system boasts some really sweet features, so come on in and check them out!

Yes, we’re talking advanced multi-tasking, universal search, Synergy and (seriously) slick HTML 5 enhancements.

Although its too early to say for certain, it certainly seems as if Palm is gearing up to seriously challenge Apple (iOs), Google (Android) and RIM (Blackberry) with a really tricked-out OS and accompanying UI.

Stacks: Next-gen multi-tasking

WebOS 2.0 takes multi-tasking to the next level by grouping related “cards” (or apps) in stacks, reducing clutter and making it easier to move quickly between tasks.

For example, webOS 2.0 automatically stacks cards for you when it makes sense, and you can also drag and drop cards to manage stacks yourself.

Just Type: Quick Actions

Simply start an email, create a message, update your status, search your favorite websites — all without having to launch a single app.

Exhibition

Allows you to run new apps designed specifically for phones placed on the Palm Touchstone Charging Dock. 

Set your phone on the dock and Exhibition launches automatically, showing you anything from today’s agenda to a slideshow of your Facebook photos.

Synergy

Synergy collates data from multiple sources automatically, so everything you need is in one place.

Simply sign in to your Facebook, Google, Microsoft Exchange, LinkedIn and Yahoo accounts – and relevant information will quickly populate your phone. 

Facebook friends’ birthdays show up in your contacts, while work and personal calendars appear side by side. IM and text messages are also combined into a single conversation.

JavaScript Services

Besides powering the new Synergy APIs, JavaScript services bolster webOS’s support for background processing and add new capabilities, such as low-level networking, file system access and binary data processing — to the web technology stack.

HTML5 Enhancements

Flash? Forget Flash! HTML5 is the future, baby! And webOS 2.0 has got it all, including Enhanced Canvas support, support for Web Storage — both local and session storage, geolocation support and application caches.
