Rodman & Renshaw analyst Ashok Kumar has shared some interesting information with regard to Apple’s ambitions for their next generation iPhone and iPad products.

According to Kumar, Apple’s is planning to incorporate a dual-core processor on the iPad 2 in order to compete with both Research In Motion’s BlackBerry PlayBook and Motorola’s Gingerbread tablet.

“Apple is on track to refresh the iPad by March and iPhone by late summer. A key component upgrade across these platforms will be a dual-core processor featuring a pair of 1GHz ARM Cortex A9 cores,” said Kumar.

Given that both the iPhone 4 and iPad share the same A4 1GHz processor, it would only make sense that Apple include the “1GHz ARM Cortex A9 core” on the iPhone 5 — which should push things to the next level on both of these devices.

Apple is expected to announced the next generation iPad later next month. The iPhone 5 will be announced in early Summer.
