Canon introduces a new digital SLR camera, the EOS 5D Mark III, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the EOS system. The new model sits between the 5D Mark II and the top model EOS 1D X. It is equipped with a newly designed 22.3 Megapixel full-frame CMOS image sensor and DIGIC 5+ image processor for enhanced noise reduction and processing speed.

The EOS 5D Mark III will carry on that tradition, delivering better and more advanced features, helping our customers achieve excellent image quality for stills and video,”

The 5D Mark III features 61-Point High Density Reticular AF system with with up to 41 cross-type points and five dual cross-type points available, 63-zone iFCL dual layer metering system, 6fps high-speed continous shooting, the AI Servo AD tracking algorithm, and Multiple Exposure Mode with four compositing methods – Additive, Average, Bright and Dark. It is capable of Full HD 1080p video recording at 30fps.

The DSLR has built-in HDR mode that merge three images at various exposure levels into a single image and it includes five HDR settings – Natural, Art Standard, Art Vivid, Ar Bold and Art Embossed – to provide unique visual effects. It offers a wide ISO range from ISO 100 to 25,600 for better low light performance and there are a low ISO 50 setting for studio and landscape photography and two extended ISO settings of 51,200 and 102,400, well suited for law enforcement, government or forensic field applications.

The new 5D Mark III comes with an intelligent Viewfinder with superimposed LCD display with approximately 100% field of view, wide viewing angle of 34.1-degree, and 0.71x magnification; and a 3.2-inch Clear View II LCD display. It includes Comparative Playback function that allows photographers to display two images side by side on the camera’s 3.2-inch LCD screen. The camera has dual memory card slots supporting CompactFlash Type I and SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards.

Canon’s 5D Mark III has a rugged camera body with magnesium alloy body covers and a stainless steel lens mount, and features a dust-resistant and moisture-resistant design with improved gaskets and seals. It is also equipped with Canon’s EOS Integrated Cleaning System, featuring a Self Cleaning Sensor Unit with a fluorine coating that repels dust and dirt particles.

Coming at the end of March, the EOS 5D Mark III will be sold in a body-only configuration at $3,499.00, and with the EF24-105mm f/4L IS USM zoom lens in a kit for $4,299.00.
