Cupertino, California-based Apple Inc. announced today at the “Back to the Mac” event its new generation MacBook Air. According to Apple CEO Steve Jobs, the new MacBook Air has been inspired by the iPad. For instance, the new device will feature only flash storage placed directly onto the main board. The devices will not include optical or hard drive.

The new MacBook Air will be made available today in two different sizes — 11.6 inches and 13.3 inches. The device will vary in prices according to the specifications. However, customers will be able to purchase the basic 11.6-inch model for just $999.

In addition, the new MacBook Air computers have been equipped with FaceTime cameras, bigger multi-touch trackpads, and full size QWERTY keyboards.
