Entertainment site Disney Online reached an all-time traffic high with a record 35.8 million unique visitors last month, thanks to the increased popularity of its Games section and other offerings.

That amount is 5.3 percent higher, or nearly 2 million more, than Disney.com’s previous highest traffic month in June 2009, when the site attracted 34 million unique visitors, according to released data from comScore Media Metrix. Its July 2010 numbers represent a 16 percent rise compared to the previous month.

Disney Online says it managed to set this record due to increased traffic to its Disney Games, Disney Channel, and Disney Movies sections — its Disney Games area was especially strong, rising to the No. 3 spot of comScore’s Online Gaming category, and bringing in 6 percent more visitors month-over-month.

The company says its Club Penguin community continues to receive more monthly traffic than any other virtual world. Its Toontown Online virtual world received a 64 percent jump month-over-month in unique visitors, while Disney Fairies Pixie Hollow enjoyed an 80 percent month-over-month traffic increase in July.

It also attributed the increased traffic last month to mobile games and apps like Toy Story, Camp Rock 2, and Radio Disney. Disney noted that its 900,000 mobile “game starts” in July broke records, too, and that its iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad app broke 1 million downloads.

“The online environment sets a very competitive landscape, making record-breaking traffic numbers like these a tremendous achievement,” says Disney Online’s executive vice president and managing director Paul Yanover.

Yanover continues, “Year after year, our traffic growth demonstrates our dedication to delivering innovative content and guest engagement, making Disney Online an unparalleled destination for kids and families on the Web.”
