iPhone 5 reportedly started in mass production for German carrier taking preorders

Wednesday, September 7, 2011 9:17 No Comments

Several sites are reporting that Foxconn and Pegatron have already started mass production of Apple’s upcoming iPhone 5.  Japanese tech site Macotakara reports that iOS 5 is still not ready, so the new iPhones are being stocked without the OS for now. The news comes as no surprise, since the iPhone 5 is supposed to launch in weeks, exactly when is anyone’s guess. However, Deutsche Telekom is already accepting preorders for the unannounced phone. The company believes the move will let it plan the launch a bit better and eliminate supply bottlenecks. Since Germany is one of few western countries to still have a solvent economy, it is probably a good idea to anticipate high demand. In r

New services unlock iPhones without jailbreaking

Friday, April 15, 2011 0:25 No Comments

For many iPhone owners, a big reason to stage a jailbreak is to unlock the device, thus allowing it to work with carriers other than AT&T. (In the U.S., “carriers” means T-Mobile.) Now, at least two services are promising to unlock any iPhone 3G, 3GS, or 4 without the need to jailbreak. What’s more, they can do it remotely. Cut Your Sim and GSM Phone Source charge $169.99 and $179.99, respectively, for remote iPhone unlocking. In both cases you supply your phone’s International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number, then wait a couple days for an e-mail confirming that the process is complete. It’s that simple. According to Cut Your Sim, this is

HTC Thunderbolt 4G Reportedly Selling Better than iPhone 4

Wednesday, April 6, 2011 10:05 No Comments

The newly-launched HTC Thunderbolt 4G is reportedly selling better than the iPhone 4 on Verizon Wireless, according to BTIG Research analyst Walter Piecyk — who called 150 different Verizon Wireless stores across 22 major cities nationwide to ask which of the two aforementioned smartphones was selling better. The results are kind of shocking. Piecyk indicates that 61% of the Verizon Wireless stores reported that both the HTC Thunderbolt 4G and iPhone 4 are selling around the same rate. However, 28% of the stores revealed that the new HTC Thunderbolt 4G is selling at a much faster rate. The remaining 11% of stores stated that the iPhone 4 was outselling the HTC Thunderbolt 4G. T

Verizon stop iPhone pre-orders due to massive demand

Friday, February 4, 2011 18:20 No Comments

Yesterday, Verizon allowed customers who were already subscribers to its mobile service to pre-order the iPhone. In less than 24 hours, the carrier had to pull the phone’s pre-order page because of what it calls overwhelming demand. Verizon’s website crashed yesterday due to a record number of customers logging in to place their order for the new device. By about midnight, it was no longer accepting pre-orders. This isn’t unusual for the iPhone. When AT&T opened up iPhone 4 pre-orders last year, the site crashed almost instantly and customers were left to fervently refresh the site until they could put an order through. The entire supply of pre-order phones w

Apple to stream event live…to Apple devices only

Wednesday, September 1, 2010 12:54 1 Comment

Apple will broadcast its highly anticipated media event today in a live video stream, but in a decision sure to divide consumers, only owners of the latest Apple kit will be able to watch it. Commentators expect Apple CEO Steve Jobs to unveil a refreshed iPod family plus confirm whether iTunes is headed online as well as lifting the lid on TV show streaming rumours. However, not everyone will be able to watch the event live as Apple has made a divisive move to broadcast its conference using HTTP Live Streaming, which only runs on the latest Apple products, perhaps risking alienating would-be Apple customers. Viewers will need a Mac running Safari on Mac OS X version 10.6 Snow Leop
