Crashing Google Wave Finds New Life in Open Source “Wave in a Box”

Google recently announced it will shut down Google Wave, the company’s web app for real-time collaboration, in April 2012. Google had previously all but abandoned Wave, ceasing new development over a year ago, but soon all traces of Wave will be removed from the web. Wave will become read-only in January 2012, meaning users will no longer be able to create new waves. After that Google Wave users have until April 30 to export their content before the service shuts down completely. Justin Bieber took Bing’s search king crown on Monday after the company revealed the top searches of 2011. Bieber fever appears to have swept across a number of Bing users as the 17-year old Canadian pop singer topped the charts for most-searched person of the year. Lindsay Lohan, Katy Perry and Megan Fox all featured in the top 10 most-searched people too. Russia launches Chinese satellite – report by AFP

MOSCOW — A Russian Proton-M rocket completed the successful launch Saturday of an advanced Chinese communications satellite that should help expand television coverage in parts of Southeast Asia. The Roscosmos space agency said the AsiaSat 7 satellite was placed in its designed orbit at 0423 GMT after being launched from the Baikonur space centre in ex-Soviet Kazakhstan on Friday evening. Microsoft buys video discovery service “Videosurf”, will integrate into Xbox 360.

Microsoft has bought video discovery service Videosurf to “evolve search and discovery of entertainment content” on Xbox 360. The press release sent out by Microsoft this morning in the US confirms the company will be integrated into Xbox 360 “ecosystem” in some form, noting that it’ll “evolve search and discovery of entertainment content” via Xbox Live. “This holiday we will launch voice search across our entertainment partners on Xbox Live.
