Microsoft redesigns Xbox 360 controller with ‘transforming D-pad’

Microsoft will release a redesigned wireless controller for its Xbox 360 console which will feature a transforming directional pad. The silver controller includes a “transforming D-pad” that allows players to alter the way the directional pad is used. Players can use the standard plus format as they would with any Xbox 360 controller, or twist the D-pad into a disc format so it almost resembles a fatter thumbstick. In a statement, Microsoft says the disc format is ideal for “sweeping movements.” The controller will also include concave analog sticks and grey buttons on the face of the device. Samsung launches digital download 3D video app – Explore 3D

For those of you out there with a Samsung 3D TV but are still frustrated with the lack of 3D content, there’s a new app that will solve your worries. Owners of a Samsung 3D TV, which is the majority of 3D TV owners in the US, can go to the Internet @ TV menu to find the new “Explore 3D” app available from Samsung. It’s a free download. The app currently only has three pieces of content – trailers for Shrek Forever After, Megamind, and How to Train Your Dragon. Kinect Capable to play More than Two Players.

While Microsoft has only really shown two people at most enjoying a Kinect game together in all their promotional material, that doesn’t mean the technology isn’t able to follow more players at once. Speaking to Videogamer, Xbox general manager Kudo Tsunoda said the limitation is really up to what developers think would work best for their games, but Kinect could recognize additional players if they wanted it to. “I think that it all depends on the kind of experience that you want to build,” Tsunoda said during GamesCom last week. “Certainly if you look at a game, go down on the floor, Dance Central is already incorporating a lot more than two players.
